ATI Technologies Inc. (commonly called ATI, later known as Radeon Technologies Group) was a semiconductor technology corporation based in Markham, Ontario, Canada, that specialized in the development of graphics processing units and chipsets. Founded in 1985 as Array Technology Inc., the company listed publicly in 1993. Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) acquired ATI in 2006.\n \nInitially, ATI's President and Founder, K.Y. Ho, wanted to launch the company as Array Technologies Inc. Given that the computer graphics space was populated with established and recognized names, such as IBM and Tseng Labs, I convinced the owners to launch the company as ATI and not limit their future to gate arrays. After creating a very strong and unique branding, the icon became as synonymous with graphics cards as the IBM logo was to computers.
